Double-sided Book Cover with Amitayus Paradise

A two-sided wooden manuscript book cover in beautiful condition. One side features a gilt, carved image of Amitayus surrounded by retinue Buddhas in an ornate botanical setting, bordered with a traditional swirling motif; the reverse side is uncarved and painted with a pattern of circles on a red ground. As always, one of the short ends of the book cover is also carved. This book cover is an elegant sacred object, the details of which reward close examination. |
